Ayurvedic Herb for Dengue Fever: Dengue fever is the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease in the world occurring in tropical and subtropical areas. It is one of the arthropod-born and epidemiological diseases caused by Arbovirus carried by vector Aedes aegypti. Due to rapid urbanization, unhealthy lifestyle, and deficient water management including improper water storage practices in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas, leading to the proliferation of mosquito breeding sites.

How Does Dengue Spread?

In humans, the virus of dengue is transmitted via the bite of an infected mosquito. It was observed that only a few mosquito species are vectors for the dengue virus. Vector is the one that transmit a disease to its host organism and the most common are animals and microorganisms that transmit different diseases. The most common vectors are Arthropods, which are invertebrate animals with an external skeleton called an exoskeleton. Arthropods include ticks, lice, flies, mosquitoes, and fleas.

Signs & Symptoms of Dengue Fever:           

It results in flu-like symptoms and lasts for 2-7 days. The fever usually occurs after an incubation period of 4-10 days after the bite of the infected mosquito.
The patient is suffering from High Fever (40°C/ 104°F) and is usually accompanied by at least two of the following symptoms:

 

Symptoms of Dengue Fever

  • Headaches
  • Pain behind eyes
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Swollen glands
  • Joint, bone, or muscle pains
  • Rash

 

Symptoms of Severe dengue:

When developing into severe dengue, the critical phase takes place around 3-7 days after the first sign of illness, these includes:

  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Bleeding gums
  • Vomiting blood
  • Rapid breathing
  • Fatigue/ restlessness
  • Blood in urine or stool
  • Cold and Clammy Skin

Ayurvedic concept on Dengue Fever:

From Ayurvedic perspectives, the fever of dengue came under the category of Abhishangaja Jvara predominantly Pittaja in the pathological ground. The complications of dengue represent Raktaja and Sannipataja Jvara.

According to the Madhava Nidhana, Dengue fever is described as Dandaka Jwara and is found in Parishishta Chapter.
