Pathophysiology of Hypertension in Ayurveda:

The intake of the causative factors leads to aggravation and vitiation of blood. The doshas present in the blood are involved indirectly in the manifestation of high blood pressure. The excess intake of alcohol and salt vitiates the Sadhaka pitta, a sedentary lifestyle vitiates avalambaka Kapha and mental stress induces aggravation of Prana Vayu.

Initially, the aggravation of Prana Vayu, influence the heart and vitiates residing component like vayana vayu, sadhaka pitta, avalambaka Kapha. Prakupit or Vitiated Avalambaka Kapha induces exaggerated contractility of the heart and aggravated Vayan Vayu leads to an increased speed of the blood (ejection of blood). These conditions result in forceful expulsion of blood through blood vessels and lead to increased resistance in vessels ensuring High blood pressure.
